The Meteor that (almost) Killed The Freemium Fellow.

As happy as I am about finally putting some of my thoughts down on “paper,” this has already been a long journey. To be truthful, it’s hard to even talk about what happened. Nevertheless, I’m going to attempt to explain what happened. Here is a rundown of sequential events that I refer to as, “The Meteor That (almost) Killed The Freemium Fellow.”

1/8/15

Finally get my blog up and running! Things can only get better from here (So young and innocent).

4/21/15

Published my first post. It is amazing. Like, really good. So good that I don’t even need to save it on my computer! (nice job, genius)

6/9/15

Published my third post. Yippee! They are all picturesque and beautiful (It’s making me teary eyed just thinking about it… *Sniff*).

7/28/15

The first signs of something being off. My domain gives me a “404: error establishing connection error,” message when attempting to connect. Oh well, who cares, fix it later (cringe). 

8/1/15

Something is very, VERY wrong. I go to my web host and it says that my website has to be renewed. Okay, no problem. It says I just have to click ‘renew’ and it will go as smooth as molasses. Not the case. I hit ‘renew’ and everything goes kaput. Oh no…

8/2/15

Proceed to look around to try and find bits and pieces of my blog posts. Nothing. Anger materializes in the form of intense screaming and unintelligible heartbroken muttering. Sobbing ensues.  

I was truly heartbroken. My website host had gone belly-up, along with my self-hosted WordPress files and posts. Because of these wild turn of events, I have seldom been found uttering the words The Freemium Fellow ever since. That is, until now.

After much dispute and intense procrastination, I will try again. Can’t hurt by trying again. I used free services that I didn’t completely understand and they went south. That’s why I’m writing this. To show you what cheap stuff is okay to use and what cheap stuff is not okay to use. Time to move forward and carpe diem.

Throughout this process, I am reminiscing about a favorite quote of mine by the Irish novelist James Joyce.

Mistakes are the portals of discovery.

Hence, in a Darth Vader to Luke Skywalker-esque voice, “Join me, and together we can rule the cash!” (or rule the galaxy. Got to start small.)
